trackpoint button stuck

#1 Post by seaweedsl » Tue Jan 15, 2008 12:21 am

My R51 seems to have developed a stuck left trackpoint button. It started suddenly last week and has been stuck since.

I should say, I deduced it is stuck because the pointer opens anything I hover over without clicking.

The actual button does spring back and it feels the same as always, but the machine acts as if it's being held down or constantly clicking.

Turning off the trackpoint in the BIOS solved the problem.

I reinstalled windows (on a spare drive) to make sure it's not software related, but it's the same.

So, time to fix it or new keyboard, I suppose. I can use a mouse, but I want my trackpoint !

Anyone else had this?
Got tips on how to fix it?
I already gave it a shot with electronics cleaner.

Thanks,
Steve

See if you can gather something from the following thread:

X21 - Can I replace the mouse button?.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Thanks! That gets me up to speed on that issue. I think I'll take a shot at it to see if there is a way to clean the contacts under the rubber dome.

Since mine is stuck on, but does rebound, I suspect something is bridging the contacts.

I have loose button switches... maybe the same?

I'll post a picture of them when I get home.

Any luck with those loose button switches? I pulled off the key and got the rubber dome off to spray underneath, but no luck.
