R32 - strange buzz & power issue - resolved!

#1 Post by eiland » Tue Jan 15, 2008 8:48 am

I got a refurbished 2nd-hand R32 in the Netherlands, and after about one month, the power indicator was dimming between orange and green, and a soft - but annoying - buzz got audible somewhere between the power-in and the battery. Consequently, although the laptop indicated it was being charged, the battery was drained, and she suddenly died due to lack of juice, while being connected to the grid.

well, i brought back the machine, in the conviction it was smt. on the system board wich prevented the power from reaching the battery. Highly unfortunately, the second T32 had exactly the same problem.

So of course, the 19 yo boy in the shop suggested to replace the power supply, and never i heard the buzz again, and power is fully functional.

So this message is to tell you that if you have a buzz in your laptop, it might just be a problem in your power supply, so don't despair.

Nice story and a happy outcome - but don't you mean a T23?

I experienced something similar this morning with my R30. Battery was almost exhausted (3-4%). Plugged it in and turned it on. It booted to Windows but would flip between battery and AC every two seconds causing the screen to dim and brighten each time. I also got that buzzing sound between the AC input and the battery. THEN I noticed I was plugged into one of my 3.36A adapters rather than my 4.5A. This has never been a problem, but I've also never tried to charge a fully depleted battery while using it. Quickly did a hard shut down and replaced the adapter. Fortunately nothing was damaged.
