Hard Drive Adapter Caddy Question

#1 Post by ThaDon » Tue Jan 15, 2008 6:51 pm

I recently purchased an "IBM ThinkPad T4X T60 Slim 2nd Hard Drive Adapter Caddy" from Ebay for ATA drives, to my surprise I have also seen a SATA version available too.

Any thoughts come to mind with regards to compatibility? Anyone got one working along side a ATA internal drive. Link provided below. Thanks

First, I've never tried one. I have seen stories that it does work in a T43 if you break some piece on the back that stops it from being inserted. Presumably, with the piece broken, it will also physically fit in a T40/41/42. That doesn't mean it will work. You should also note that a T43 has a SATA controller, while the others do not. If I get my hands on one, I will try it, but the best price I have seen is $40, which is a lot to buy something I don't need (I have 2 PATA adatpers), I need to break, and may damage the motherboard when I plug it in. As soon as the knock-off/pirate companies in asia start making them cheap, I'll buy one and try it in a T4x machine that doesn't work right anyway. I have one that runs about 20 minutes before flaking out.
