How much is my X61 worth?

#1 Post by spasticteapot » Wed Jan 16, 2008 12:59 am

I have a Thinkpad X61, and I hate it. Linux compatibility is awful, and battery life is even worse.

The good news is, though, that it's a pretty nice model. I paid $1750 plus tax a few months ago, and would like to get as much of what I paid as possible back.

Anyway, here's the specs:
3-year (now 2 3/4 year) El Deluxo "accidental damage" warranty. If this laptop managed the reputed 3+ hours of battery life and had Linux compatibility as good as my old one, I'd likely still be using it three years from now.
2ghz Core 2 Duo (I'll try and figure out the variant - I'm pretty sure it's the 2mb cache version)
2GB RAM
60gb hard drive
Intel Pro/Wireless 4965 wifi card

I'm hoping $1,000+, as it's got the stupidly expensive warranty.

MOD EDIT: Moved to Marketplace for your sake.
Thinkpads: You spend money to save money.

(Just budget the price of Tylenol.)

What size battery?
60gb hard drive
What speed?

Fingerprint reader? WWAN? Model number so I wouldn't have to be asking these questions?

Funny. I used an X60s at work and I was getting something like 5-6 hours per charge. Although that was with the extended battery.

I'm surprised that you're getting less than 3 hours.

An unoptimised Linux installation can easily eat an hour or more off battery life compared to XP, and given this is a X61 rather than a X61s and assuming a four cell battery, OP's results sound fairly on the mark.

Lenovo has just partnered with Novell SUSE Linux. You might be able to get a copy from Lenovo. Check out http://lenovoblogs.com/insidethebox/?p=134

You can probably call them, and ask for one. Otherwise, start a new thread. More info can be found here: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/cont ... o/08/Linux
