Advice: Repair GPU or no

#1 Post by aaa » Wed Jan 16, 2008 11:58 am

So I have a T40 motherboard lying around. It has the good old GPU problem. I took it out when I got a new motherboard for my laptop.

So I am wondering what I should do with this thing. I'm thinking either sell it or keep it around as a spare. Of course this would require fixing it.

I do not want to go the DIY way, as I want a permanent fix. I was thinking of that guy somebody mentioned that repairs these for $50. Problem is, currently someone on the forum is selling motherboards for pretty cheap, which makes the 50+shipping seem very not worth it. Any ideas on what the best course of action is?

T4x boards? In good working order? Who?

The price would have to be a good deal lower than anything I've seen to beat $50 + shipping (are you talking about FirstPhase in Arizona?)

Right here

I'm guessing FirstPhase's 50+ two way shipping would end up around 75 or more.

I see $110 - $200 plus shipping, and the $110 boards are sold. That's a far cry from $75 including shipping, but naturally it's your call.

The 110s seem to still be there... it was the T43 boards for 200.

In any case, I think 75 is pretty close to 110, esp considering that there's a 10% chance that the repair won't work.

I say sell the board. Unless you already have spare memory, CPU, hard drive, lcd etc..., the cost of parts will equal or be greater than getting a complete used system.

Btw, I'm looking for a working T4x long cpu heatsink fan. If you decide to sell, let me know how much for that part.

I only have the short fan lying around. I'm using the long fan so it's not available.
