Need help with 64 bit windows xp drivers for T61p
Need help with 64 bit windows xp drivers for T61p
I know many of you will say that I don't need 64 bit.
However, I do some heavy lifting and need all 4 gigs of ram in my laptop.
I've tried 64 bit vista ultimate but it's too buddy and runs slower at times than my old laptop.
If anyone out there has had some success with finding the drivers, please let me know where to get them.
Thanks in advance!

Following is a successful account on X61T, Windows Vista 64-bit install on T61p and drivers will be quite similar:
Vista x64 install using Thinkvantage System Update easy.

I have Ultimate x64 running on my T60 (T550, Intel 945 vid, 4GB, 100GB 7500K HD and Atheros N wireless) with no problems at all. The install was the exact same as the 32 bit version. If the drivers are not included in Vista then it shouldn't be hard at all to get them through Windows Update or from the Lenovo site. The only driver I needed to install was the wireless driver and I got it from Lenovo. With the SP1 Refresh installed performance is the same or better than 32 bit Vista. I have not run into any software issues yet with 32 bit programs either. With current hardware support more people should go 64 bit...
After several issues with Vista 32 Business and back to XP Pro, I installed Vista Business 64 about 1 1/2 months ago on a T61p.
Used the clean install guide posted on NR utilizing the Win Upgrade DVD and getting the drivers form Lenovo and IBM.
To date, the system is stable, no BSOD, fast, responsive and really not an issue at all. Tried it with 2 mg Ram and 4 meg Ram. STABLE!
Prior to this, I was really down on Vista because of lag time, bsod, lockups.
Just got a new CPU for my wife with Vista 32 OEM install
and day one lockups, etc.
Going to convert to 64 asap. Only issue I have had is IE is slow loading as oppose to Firefox.
Using FIOS.

I also did a clean install of Vista 64 Ultimate when I purchased a new hd for my T60. I first went to Lenovo site and pick and download only the drivers I wanted and burn them to a DVD. Did a clean install from scratch, and install 64bit Lenovo drivers one by one. It's time consuming but I think it's worth it. My system is very stable from day 1, without one lockup or bsod during the 3 or 4 months usage. Dare I say it's performace is very acceptable as well ( It **feels** faster than 32bit version of Vista that I've installed briefly on the same hardware, but I don't have hard data to back that up ). I can't believe I will say this but once I get used to Vista, I don't want go back to Windows XP.
My current configuration is :
T7200 cpu
2 X 1gb ram
Hitachi 7k200 100gb hard drive
Intel integrated graphics ( Possible less problem compare with ATi driver ?? )
I guess my point is, given the right hardware and software driver, Vista 64 on T60 can be enjoyable to use.

Still looking for "64 bit XP" drivers
Thanks for the help. I have 64 bit vista ultimate installed already on my laptop.
However, I just can't have my IE, windows explorer crashing all the time.
Not to mention all the other things that just tend to get "stuck".
No one out there has 64 bit xp pro on their T6x(p)?

I WAS the same way. NOT now! Go to the NR site and use Stallin's
clean install guide. Install the drivers in suggested order and reboot after each one. Don't install via lenovo's update - try the guide and let us know.
I.e. has never crashed again for me, the slow page load is all the addons runnig which I have to get unlazy and clean up.

@wangkon
Did you ever get Windows XP Pro x64 installed successfully on your T6x?
