Anyone notice a squeeking palmrest/wobbly screen on a T61p?

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a t61p 15.4" WUXGA in November. I have a 3 year factory and 3 year accidental warranty.

I have a few little issues with my laptop and I was wondering if others were experiencing the same thing:

The plastic area where I rest my right palm squeeks/creeks quite a bit when I rest my hand on it or move my hand around. The left area squeeks a little bit, but not too much compared to the right. (I have a fingerprint reader on the right side as well.) Does anybody else notice this problem on their laptop?

Also, as I mentioned in a previous thread, my hinges are very nice and tight, but my screen wobbles a bit back and forth if I lean the computer back or forth. It moves maybe a little more than half a centimeter back and forth (without the hinges catching, you know what I mean?). Do other people notice this with their laptops? Mine is very new and I am extremely gentle with it.

Do people think I should consider sending the laptop back? Does anybody know if Lenovo would take a laptop back/replace it for these types of problems?

I've also noticed that my battery pack (9-cell) wobbles just a tad up and down, even when it's locked in place. Anyone else?

Another thing I noticed is quite a bit of light leakage all along the bottom of my screen. It's especially apparent when I'm watching a video that's dark at the bottom. (At least that's what I think I have. Whenever the screen's on but black or dark, I see a significantly lighter area all along the bottom of the screen.) Do other people have problems with light leakage?

If all these issues are just standard for the t61p, then I don't think I'll bother trying to make Lenovo replace it.

Also, does anyone know if I'll get a new or a refurbrished laptop if I send mine back?

I got the same light leakage issue on my T61 but I won't bother to send back because it is common to the T61/T61p.
Chance that you will get a replacement w/o light leakage is very slim.

For the creaking issues reseat your keyboard and palmrest and secure the screws gently (not too tight and not too loose).

Wobbling for 9-cell battery is normal, you can put a duct tape on it to minimize it.

I'm not familiar with any hard and fast policies on light leakage but you should contact IBM support center to see if they can do anything for you under warranty service.

Thank you for your responses!

ryengineer:
What exactly do you mean by "reseat" my keyboard and palmrest. How do I do this? Also, which screws should I tighten?

Your pictures were AWESOME! Thank you so much!

Reseat= reposition, disconnect and reconnect, like the following videos:

Keyboard removal movie - ThinkPad T60/p.

Keyboard installation movie - ThinkPad T60/p.
