Need help with CPU upgrade in T60p...Anxious to do it..HELP!

Thanks guys for all the replies. Alright, I'll forget about the anti-static stuff. Confession: I just did it again...I left the battery in when I installed my new 200GB in the main hard drive slot, as well as put my 100GB drive in the Ultrabay drive holder. That is one HOT setup, by the way.

I know, I know. The battery thing is just too easy to avoid as a source of a problem. I just simply forgot. I had also forgotten it a while ago on a T43p when I added RAM to it.

Alright, so I'll definitely make sure to do this right. At least I didn't forget about the battery when I installed the two 2GB chips for this baby. Will this redeem me? lol...

Thanks guys for the Artic Silver locations...I found it on ebay, but I really wanted to do it over this weekend! Yea, there are Best Buy's, Radio Shack's, Circuit City'sl, etc. all around here. I'm on the east coast right now, but we have plenty of Fry's in SoCal. I thought that was a west coast thing?? Oh well..

Two more small questions: Artic Silver seems to be THE way to go. They also have a cleanser. Should I buy that, too?

Before assembling the CPU, touch any grounded metal object to discharge static electricity and you should be good.
For thermal paste, use Artic Silver 5 or Arctic Thermal Compound MX-2 should surface.

Thanks for the quick reply! I found Artic Silver 5, along with some cleanser on ebay. I don't want to wait yet another weekend and get it sometime mid-next week. What store would I go to and buy it if you know?

And I don't need to worry about buying this ESD anti-static stuff???It seems like overkill to me, but maybe I really need it? Thanks again!

You don't need the anti-static gloves. It is overkill. I have built more than 10 computers but I have never had any problem with frying any CPU due to static charge.
Touching your hand with any grounded metal object before holding the CPU is sufficient. It is also good practice to hold the CPU by the side, avoiding touching the central part where most of the semiconductor circuits and logic gates are located.
You can buy AC5 from Fry's Computer Store if you live in America. If you live in other countries, I have no idea.

you can get Arctic Silver at virtually any computer store, such as BestBuy, Fry's Electronics, RadioShack, etc... Replacing CPU is relatively easy, don't stress to much about it =)

You should be able to get arctic silver at any computer store as previously mentioned. I would also get the cleaner and purifier. I got a package on eBay for about $12 for arctic silver, cleaner and purifier.

About the anti static gloves its not necessary. What I did was use some latex gloves ( think gloves doctors use ) and everything went fine.

Be sure to know how much paste to apply, its really less than you think.
