Wireless card Code 10?

#1 Post by evident » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:45 pm

With this being my first post here, I want to say Thank You in advance. I have enjoyed browsing the wealth of info here for a few days and decided to hook up!

I have a T42. My problem is that this machine recently had Windows XP re-installed (clean install from scratch). Don't know exactly why- I bought it from a friend of mine...

Everything works great except for my wireless card. I have installed all the drivers that I can find from Lenovo (the ones that I think I need anyway). I opened the case to be sure the device is actually there and it is.

Whenever I hit Fn=F5, I get a message that says "No wireless or bluetooth devices are installed on this system". Then my Access Connections window comes up.

The device IS in the Hardware Manager, but it has a yellow "?" on it. Or maybe it's a "!"... anyway...
When I look at its properties, it reads, "device cannot be started- Code 10"

So what is that and what do I do?

Thanks again-

Jeff

Has your wireless card ever worked?
If yes, your problem is fixable
If no, get the card out of the laptop and get an other wireless card.

Had the same problem with an Prism wireless thingy in my T40, also Code 10 error, and i wasn't able to fix the problem.

Tried like 3.000 different drivers, but none of them worked.

Put in an Atheros card, installed the drivers and *BAM* it worked directly.

Yes- the card worked before the XP install. I bought the thing after the install- thinking it was OK because I saw it work before.

When you opened the case have you checked what kind of a card you have exactly? Are the drivers the right ones?

Maybe the card came loose or something. Have you checked it is correctly installed (physically)?

I'm not sure I would know if it wasn't correct. Tell me what I should check.

This is the driver that usually works:

I installed that driver (several times)... NOTHING.

I did notice that in my device manager, I have "Intel Pro 1000 LAN Adapter" listed under Network Adapters. This should be my ethernet adapter, correct?

I also noticed under OTHER DEVICES, there is a "Network Adapter" which is not working. I removed it from the system, rebooted and the FOUND NEW HARDWARE notice popped up. It was that "Network Adapter" again. The system could find no driver for it when the wizard ran- so how do I know what to download for that?

I'm assuming that this "device" is my wireless adapter and the Code 10 is just because the driver is missing. Possible?

You are going to need to open the machine and get the card's model number or part number
