Hi, I bought an Thinkpad R30 from someone who said all it needed was the CMOS battery replaced, which I think is also referred to as a backup battery. Well I replaced the watch type battery and I am still getting the following errors:
0250 System Battery is dead
0251 System CMOS Ckecksum is bad
0270 Real Time Clock error
I went into the Bios and went to the date and time, it has 1/31/81 for date but there is no time. Any thoughts? Thanks Joe
Thinkpa R30 CMOS Problem
After you check to make sure you CMOS is good, make sure the solder holding the battery holder down is good. I had those exact same symptoms on my R30 which was fixed by removing the battery holder and soldering leads directly to the board. See:
