x40 audio doesn't work

i came home, typed stuff on my laptop and my computer shut off. turned it back on and my audio doesn't work. is it possibly it overheated while i was gone? i was downloading some torrents. the audio devices aren't detected it says.

Boot up a live Linux CD. If audio fails it's time for a PCMCIA sound card.
