xp64 on x61t

#1 Post by tarvoke » Fri Jan 18, 2008 1:06 am

just a random mention to let anyone interested know that xp pro 64bit is working just fine on x61 tablet. sees all 4g of memory perfectly, too.

intel has done a lovely job providing the necessary 64-bit drivers (so far x3100 and 3945abg installed ... will get to the rest when I need the functionality)

have been running sata in compatibility/legacy mode tho: for some reason, the intel matrix driver refuses to unpack telling me some minimum requirements are not met. bleh. will crack that nut sooner or later. (mainly just need that wacky install.cmd file, the actual drivers are easy enough to get from the floppy zip package)

doesn't feel particularly different or snappier than xp tablet 2005, but hey it's much more 2003 server underneath which is always a good thing. microsoft seems to give much better effort in things that are somewhat more specialized... 2003, windows mobile, xbox, etc.

maybe someday I'll give vista64 a second chance ... maybe.
go away.

Get the Matrix drivers directly from Intel. Select XP X64 from the download options listed there.

thanks, but that's exactly where I got the driver and I did make sure to specify xp64. the install starts the usual way but before anything gets extracted it tells me "minimum requirements not met." just need to find some other way to extract the contents I guess...

Odd, worked for me. Alternatively, you can try and manually update the drivers through the device manager (the SATA ones). I gave up on XP X64 a while back though - missing drivers for OnScreen Display and other things.

I'll have to try that, thanks again. although I wonder if the install.cmd does anything special to the registry or otherwise?

I did just now try rightclick->install on the .inf files from the floppy version of the driver, but no luck. meh.

osd and most of the other lenovo stuff doesn't really matter to me (hell, I don't even use the pen on this thing! long story...)

yep, updated thru device manager and it worked (complained that the driver may not be suitable etc. etc.) thanks yet again.
