T60 and GSA-4083N: Does not fit?

#1 Post by 35712 » Fri Jan 18, 2008 5:59 am

Hi folks!

I've just tried to exchange my CD burner + DVD Reader for a 4083N DVD DL mate. But though I have exchanged the drive frame, it does not fit. I cannot push it in the last 1,5 centimetres. It seems to have to do with the connector at the rear - it looks a little different from the Multi Burner Drive. Do I need an adapter or anything else?

Hope you can help me!

The ThinkPad interface connector is proprietary and is not compatible with the JAE50 interface connector that run-of-the-mill optical drives have.

You cannot use any type of interface adapter because 1) they don't exist and 2) even if an interface adapter did exist, it'd add too much to the depth of the drive and there's no way at all that it'd fit the drive bay.

That said, you must get a optical drive designed to work specifically with your ThinkPad.
