very very slow memory stick

#1 Post by Georgecb » Sat Jan 19, 2008 12:34 pm

I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 (roughly 18 months old). Running Windows XP Professional SP2.

Whenever I insert a memory stick, the autoplay dialog opens quickly. However it takes ages (sometimes several minutes) to open any folder when I click the Open Folder options.

I've several memory sticks with the same result. I've checked all sticks on several PCs, other laptops and a couple of Macs and they open almost immediately. I've also checked that my lenovo has USB2 ports and it does. It has been suggested that I download and install the chipset from the Lenovo web site, which I've done but to no avail.

Not a despareate issue but very annoying. Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

George

Once you've originally opened it, does it access sub folders with the same delay? Have you tried canceling out of autorun and opening it through my computer? That's actually what I do, since mine usually takes a little while to get through autorun.

Slow Memory Stick

#3 Post by Georgecb » Mon Feb 04, 2008 11:05 am

Hi Truck

That is indeed how I open the data folders on the memory stick. When any sticks are attached to any USB port, the autorun dialog opens relatively quickly. Thereafter it moves at a snails pace.

This doesn't happen with any other PC or Mac (and I've tried the same sticks with plenty). I've downloaded every upgrade from the Lenovo web site.

I fear this is something I'm just going to have to live with .

Regards

George
