Re: ThinkPad BIOS whitelist (error 1802/1804) *READ 1st MSG*
@Verlon,
Thanks for your blog entry. It really encouraged me to work on my Ericsson f3507g WWAN whitelisting for my beloved X201. I have started yesterday but hiting a wall so far. I thought that maybe i will ask you first before i start diging into this rabbit hole. Problem which i have is related to phnxmoding module back to original image. I have recreated the headers (using your script - thanks for that) and whenever i try to execute the phnxmod it is saying that old module was not found in the original image. What am i doing wrong? Here is my procedure.
1. phcomp /d bios.pl1
2. phnxsplit bios.plh
3. phnxpatch ../patches .
4. headers.sh BIOSCODE06.rom.patched BIOSCODE06.rom.new (this is your script)
5. phnxmod bios.flh BIOSCODE06.rom BIOSCODE06.rom.new
Additionally do you know how to disassembly the modules? I've tried several times but it seems i cannot find correct entry point as the computed instructions do not make much sense.
I have tried the phoenix bios editor 2.2 as well, but it is saying "invalid rom size" and fails to open but this could be related to editor being too old for that bios.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Hello!
I have been patched BIOS v1.22 for Lenovo X201.
Tests showed, that all works fine. Particularly Intel WiFi/WiMax module 5150 works good.
Patched files, you can download from here http://www.mafet.ru/x201/Lenovo_X201_6q ... telist.rar
Close all applications, make sure you are running the same version (original bios) already, then apply the modded one.
Please note: A biosupdate should be applied when needed only.
Upon opening the WinPhlash, click "Advanced Settings" then check and uncheck the boxes so it looks like this:
("Flags" Tab):
[ ] Verify BIOS part number
[ ] Flash only if BIOS version is different
[ ] Flash only if BIOS version is newer
[ ] Verify BIOS image size
[ ] Verify BIOS checksum
[ ] Zero block before erasing
[x] Verify block after programming
[x] Disable Axx swaping automatic detection (if present)
[ ] Clear CMOS Checksum
("DMI" tab)
"Update": Select "Update the BIOS and not DMI"
Article with description of patch process (in original russian language), you can look here http://habrahabr.ru/blogs/DIY/107598/
Google-translated version is here http://translate.google.ru/translate?js ... F107598%2F

Now i have been tested WAN module 3G with my patched bios, and got error
ERROR 1804: Unauthorized WAN card is plugged in - Power off and remove the WAN card.
Seems that there is another check function for WAN, that i didn't patch.

dyleck,
I have been patched BIOS for WWAN cards and now, error 1804 disappeared.
Test with my unauthorised 3G Sierra Wireless MC8775 module on X201, passed successfully - after installing drivers, i can connect to 3G network.
I've uploaded new version of patched file at the same address http://www.mafet.ru/x201/Lenovo_X201_6q ... telist.rar
Please redownload file.

Re: ThinkPad BIOS whitelist (error 1802/1804) *READ 1st MSG*
Mafet,
I have installed your bios cause it was tempting to check how it works. And it works perfectly... almost. The whitelist at boot level is removed however the card is sometimes switched off by ACPI. I have tested on two cards: both Ericsson F3507g - one branded for Lenovo and other by Dell. On Lenovo card it is disconnected randomly (most of the times it is off, however sometimes the card works perfectly). Dell cards is always off and do not allow to be switched on using AT+CFUN=1 command. Both cards work perfectly when pin 20 is taped over (this pin is responsible for power off by RFKILL switch). I believe Zender mentioned about this on his page with tutorial. There is still some work to be done in order to make your bios mod perfect.
If i can help somehow please let me know.
Best Regards

dyleck,
It is strange, because on my X201 both cards works perfectly.
A have this problem, than notebook was with removed cover - wifi signal was unstable.
When i closed notebook - everythink was good. I think it is radio collisions, when notebook was with removed cover, which has a protective screen.

Mafet,
I believe different cards behaves differently. For me it does not matter if cover is removed or not - in both cases signal is ok. But without taping out pin 20 the cards either do not turn on at all or appear in the system on random basis. What cards have you tested?

Awesome, thanks EOMtp. Downloaded and sorted.
Just a note, whilst in DOS (booted form CD) I had to set "PATH=C:\flash", change the directory into the folder containing the .fl1 file then run the flash2 /u command. Easy to do, but for the unwary this should help. Youngsters using only Windows won't know what environment varibles are. ;O)

Re: ThinkPad BIOS whitelist (error 1802/1804) *READ 1st MSG*
Ntri,
Check if X201i and X201 have the same bios. You can do that by downloading both and compare files (the ones with FL1 extension) by using some checksuming tool. If they are identical then you can safely go ahead. BIOS moded by Mafet works (almost) flawlessly.

I flash this bios on my X201i. WiMax card 5150 startup immediately. But my 3G MC8775 not detected.
I enter to bios and load default settings, 3G modem detected and work perfect.
Again, big thaks to Mafet

Ntri,
Please make sure that your card is always detected. You might have the same problem what i have. Card appears on random basis. I have played with bios the whole day and it did not make any difference. Taping out pin 20 did the trick eventually. Let us know if your card stard disappearing.
