Just an informational posting.
I'm running 1.5GB RAM now - using a 1GB HP PC2700 SODIMM (intended for the NC8000/NW8000 family)
802.11a/b/g support using a Dell 1450 wireless miniPCI (having used the no-1802.com) utility.
The IBM 802.11 a/b/g wireless miniPCI doesn't work - weirdo message about too many ethernet controllers.
I'm using a Samsung 80GB 5400rpm spinpoint hard drive - really nice, totally silent and so far, very reliable - and cheap. Note that I haven't tried to migrate the IBM system partition over though. Just went for a fresh build from CD.
Just need to do the CPU upgrade.
After many years of loyalty to IBM this is my last ever thinkpad - I need a built-in serial port - so next upgrade I'll be defecting to HP.

A31P - 80GB 5400rpm Samsung, 802.11a/b/g miniPCI all good!

I feel your pain! Just get a Port Replicator II: http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-45922dct wrote:After many years of loyalty to IBM this is my last ever thinkpad - I need a built-in serial port - so next upgrade I'll be defecting to HP.
All of my serial devices work with it, flow data loggers, air samplers, tritectors, etc., etc.
But, it would be nice to have a serial port built into my T40.

James

Hi James
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I do a lot of on-site work and I just don't want to lug around a port replicator especially when Dell and HP/Compaq can supply laptops with built-in serial ports.
I wonder if IBM realise how foolish they're being, ditching the serial port. I was the key influencer in a 3000+ Thinkpad purchase in my last role - a recommendation I won't be able to repeat until such time as the serial port vanishes from the corporate environment.
Oh well.
Regards
David
