If you insist on having a special product, use any eyeglass cleaner/wipes. They are actually a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water with a lint free wipe.

Water and ethanol?
Could I use the isopropyl wipes that come in a first aid kit, or is that another no no?

Save those for emergencies. As for me, I've always used "dollar store" isopropyl alcohol (which is usually 50% isopropyl alcohol, 50% water already) and microfibre cloths. Seems to work fine, and it hasn't damaged any of my LCDs yet (don't sue me if it damages yours!)

On a notebook review site, I heard some noise about a screen cleaner called iklear by Shaggymac. I read a good review from one of the better reviewers there and decided to give it a try.

I am now a regular user of this Shaggymac product..... There is a kleenex size cloth that is semi damp that you rub on and then a dry cloth that wipes it off. A very light touch is needed and the screen is super clean.......This product reminds me of that rainex stuff they promote for windshields...

They are a tad pricey but I only use 1 per month to do both my laptops and during the month only use the dry cloth to "dust them off".

You can only order online....Google ShaggyMac or iklear....

Get a clean damp sponge (NOT sopping wet please), squeeze a drop of dish washing detergent, massage it well through the sponge, squeeze off ALL excess drips.

Wipe screen. Wipe case, keyboard etc as well if you are up to it. I am not exactly super gentle with this either.

If necessary, buff dry with clean towel.

Easy. Cheap. Works.

I used to use the alcohol wipe method exclusively until my recent acquisition of 2 600X machines. They both had a horrible coating on the screens that the alcohol wouldn't touch.
As odd as it sounds, I used a piece of open cell foam and dish detergent as posted by zern (wrung out as much moisture as possible)... with fabulous results. I only had to follow up on the screen with the alcohol wipes.

The rubberized coating on the case had absolutley no streaks on it.

Nice tip, zern! :thumbs-UP:
