Motherboard replacement

#1 Post by lessthanhadley » Sun Jan 20, 2008 9:39 pm

I'm sorry if this is listed elsewhere, but I looked and could find nothing. I have a T42 that has been sitting here for the past 3 or 4 months with the common video problem caused by the bad solder on the motherboard. Everyone in the business school at my college got these laptops freshman year, and now that we are all seniors many of them are breaking. Anyway, a friend of mine had one that had a few other issues and is now no longer operational and she told me I can have it. The motherboard is good on that unit so I planed to pull it and install it in my laptop, but I cannot find directions for replacing the motherboard anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

Set aside a couple of hours and follow the directions carefully.

Good luck.

My advice - if you are not confortable with thing this yourself: Contact forum member jamiphar (see the thread LCD CCFL Backlight Repair/Replacement - I'll fix it for you!) and ask him if he wants to do it for you, and if so at what cost... and kindly note his outstandling good reputation! I would personally far rather ask him, and pay a bit for this service (and the shipping forth and back), if I was not fully certain of my capabilities of succesfully carrying out such a delicate operation.

PS: I assume that you have already checked that your dead ThinkPad is no longer covered by the warranty? Check this through the Warranty Lookup page.

God luck with the operation! :thumbs-UP:

Best regards,

Johan
