T23 Keyboard Flex

#1 Post by billp117 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 2:34 am

I noticed there are only a few support posts under my T23 keyboard. The left side of the keyboards flexes a lot. Is there any way to fix this? Do they all have just a few support posts?

No cracks in your palmrest?

You can improve a bit if you take out the keyboard and bend it a bit as follows:
- Support the middle on your lap
- press the lower sides (near the FN and the arrow keys) down a few times

Put back and check if it feels solid when keys are pressed.
It will take a few times before it is acceptable.

Taking out the keyboard not exactly as described in the HMI can cause this to happen.

Yes...I did flex it over my knee to slightly bend it to be level. Did not help much.

No cracks in my palm rest. I had another T23 for years...no cracks and the keyboard was rock solid. I did order a new keyboard to see if that fixes the problem...but it may turn out just the same. I think there are not enough support posts on the bottom of the keyboard.

I think the problem is an out of shape keyboard.

I have had several noisy keyboards on T2x machines and was able to get a solid keyboard after some bending.

Just press buttons to check which parts are noisy and bend again...

isn't this a problem with all T23s?

Good news...I received the new T23 keyboard today and it solved the flex problem. The old keyboard had lots of flex in it and the new one was much stiffer. After pressing it into place (seemed to snap in better), installing the two new screws, and testing the keys...what a difference. There is a little flex on the left side, but the new keyboard is 100% better.

This project is finished and I will be shipping it to my "new attorney niece" in Texas. Her Averex is about to die and I can't believe it is still running...what a piece of cheap junk.

Thanks for all the input.
