T43 Screen not bright

#1 Post by billp117 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 2:43 am

My "new" T43 takes about 5 minutes to come up to full brightness. All my other Thinkpads are "instantly bright" when you turn them on. My Z61t and X21 are the brightest. But, the T43 just does not get that bright and is what I would consider not satisfactory. It is under warranty and probably a candidate for repair.

Do you T43 users have the same problem?

I've owned dozens of T43s in all screen sizes imaginable, and have never had the issue that you're referring to. Sounds like it's time to pick up the phone...

No such issue with my T43 either, actually nver heard of this regarding any Thinkpad or laptop for that matter.
I suggest you send it in for repair.

I called warranty service and they told me they would send a return box to my home. I guess it is all subjective. If you let it run for a while the screen does get brighter. But, the customer service rep said the condition did not sound normal and they would repair the T43 by replacing the screen.

Thanks for the comments and recommendation.

Bill, how long did it take to get the "return" box?

I received it back today (actually yesturday but I was not home). You have to be home to sign for the box. Repair Service replace the inverter, flashed the bios, and that was it. It still takes a little while to get to full brightness...not at all like my other ThinkPads. Perhaps that is the nature of the beast. I thought they would put in a new LCD screen...but that did not happen.

They did not address the screwed up screws that hold the keyboard...but I am not worried about that for now.

Now I am waiting for a new HD from one of our forum members and I should be good.

End of story.
