usb hd doesn't shut off

#1 Post by artl » Mon Jan 21, 2008 2:26 pm

when I close the lid & the computer goes to sleep the HD connected to the usb port doesn't shut off. I've looked in device manager under usb & don't see any options re shutting down the usb drive as can be done for the mouse.

There is a system option for keeping USB ports powered up when the system is otherwise off (useful for some media centre ,and similar, usage).

IIRC, it is controlled by a BIOS setting, but wherever it is you need to ensure that the setting is configured to power down USB.

Looked at the bios & "always on usb is Disabled" seems like this setting should turn off the usb HD when lid is down but it doesn't. Any ideas?

There is another "always on" setting for USB in the Power Manager, on the Global Power Settings tab.
