factory settings for login and password

#1 Post by mlnae » Mon Jan 21, 2008 6:05 pm

I purchased a used thinkpad from IBM. It has winxp professional with sp2. I never set a login and password when I set it up. An IT person set my laptop on a network and gave me access thru a VPN for a company I consult for. When he did this he set a login and password to get on their network. Unfortunately I can not get back to the factory default login where I have my personal information. It came up with my name and the computer designation and no password. When you hit enter it says that it is not a valid entry. I have tried every possible combo of names and passwords I have, with no luck. Is there any way to get back to the original setting without undoing the network login that was given to me? I want to get to some docs on the the desktop.
Thank You

Ask the administrator if he/she knows the password of the account you want. If not, ask the admin to install Cain&Abel (need the medium 3Gb set of tables) and have it yield the password.

If the password was changed and not by you, accessibility to your documents may be difficult.
