Hi,
Recently I bought an used T42p thats come with 9 cell battery (FRU 08K8201). I check the System Information and the cycle count is only 3 times.
After sometimes, I found out thats the battery power drop from 100% to 50 or 40% for no reason. Even if I don't use it. Does anybody have any experience with battery getting hot (at the bar code area) when you pull it out from your laptop?
I'm not the expert but I think the power is leaking and the battery is hot until the power is completely drained.
I hope someone can come with a solution. Thanks.
9 cell battery drain by itself
Sound like the battery is shorting out somewhere. Internal or external. I would think twice about using it. Check all connections for debris, bent / broken connections etc. After that...either buy a new one, or ...Open it up and repair...(be careful, as this can be dangerous and isn't recommended by many)
Well a battery getting hot is never a good thing. There must be some short circuit somewhere which would also cause the battery to heat up. It's not under warranty i'm guessing so call the guy back and get it exchange or get your money back. Exploding batteries are not pretty.
Under system information, check the "first used" date and see when it was... if it was first used recently then you might be able to get them to cover it under warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I also think there is something wrong with the battery circuit. The battery only hot at specific area (at the bar code area) and the first used date is 2003-10. The warranty expired date is 2007-11-24.
Can I upgrade / extend the warranty? But before that, I'll try to call them to get a replacement/refund.
If they refuse to replace or refund, I think I have to buy a new battery.
(buy a used item sometime really suck)
but I'm still very proud and happy to own this T42p
