T43 9 cell Battery Err / internal battery circuit failure?

#1 Post by 70kg » Tue Jan 22, 2008 12:38 pm

My 9 cell is not on the recall list. (out of warranty)
Never had an issue with it...LONG battery life.
All of a sudden...battery LED on computer just blinks orange...and the power meter reads 81 percent remaining, but the computer wont use or charge the battery. Some days, it will alternate from the battery image being green with 81 percent to the grey box with a red X. I know that the cells are in good condition, not sure if I have a motherboard problem or a battery problem. I am leaning towards the battery circuit board. I don't have access to another machine or battery to test.
Has anyone else experienced this, anyway to 'repair' battery circuit board?

I have taken apart the battery and checked it's voltage pre circuit and it is strong. Bios update, pc doctor completed. Battery Failure was result....sometimes...other times everything passes. But the fact remains that if I unplug my power cable, the computer shuts off.

Thanks for any help or leads...

Yes, and my experience is that I cannot fix them, and I fix lots of things.

Do you think it would be possible to replace the circuit board with another from a used battery pack?
If so...will the donor also need to be a 9 cell pack?

The battery in question only has 200 cycles on it and is in excellent condition.

Thanks

I have good soldering equipment, and I do board-level repairs, but it is my understanding that "smart batteries" are difficult. You need to keep power to the circuitry at all time. Even a fraction of a second can require recalibration. Also, Lithium batteries can expload. I don't mean like a balloon. I mean EXPLOAD, so I leave them alone.
