T42, Dock II and external 1900 x 1200 LCD problem - Update
T42, Dock II and external 1900 x 1200 LCD problem - Update
I've a T42 (Mobility Radeon 9600, 64M) connected to a Dock II and trying to drive an external BenQ FP241W at 1900x1200x60Hz. I've created the setup in Presentation Director, and although it tests successfully the _first_ time, I can't get it to work after that. Whenever I try to apply the scheme Presentation Director reports that there was a problem applying the scheme because of "Refresh Rate". Does anyone know why this is happening?
Note: I have a trial version of Ultramon 3.0 that can drive the second display with no issue, so I don't think it's a hardware problem. Is it possible there's some sort of weird interaction between Ultramon and Presentation Director?
Any help is appreciated.

do you not have the option in Display Properties settings tab? Just plug in the other display, go to the tab and then select monitor number 2. Choose "Extend to this display" below and then drag the slider to the desired resolution.
That should work just fine...

I do...
Yes I do, but I'd like PD to automatically apply the dual monitor scheme when I dock...
you have the latest version of PD? I guess that's another reason to like Vista, that's built into the OS now

i'll let someone else who knows that handle it cuz i don't use PD and don't even have it installed. I always rather to use the OS to do things instead of installing lots of 3rd party software. If it can be done in the OS then i do it that way.

Hmm.
I'm unsure why I stopped getting updates on this topic - I thought I was subscribed.
I wanted to post an update on the situation. I finally got the FP241W to work with PD in a consistent fashion. To do it I had to:
I could not use Ultramon because of some color profile issues I couldn't understand. I'm using my T42 to do a lot of photography work, and Ultramon seemed to override or ignore the profiles loaded by the Windows XP Color Applet; I was never confident that they were being applied properly on startup. On the same subject, your profiles are not applied if you suspend and start. Once you leave the suspend mode you have to go to the Windows XP Color Applet and reapply the profile you want
Windows XP's color, dual monitor and multi workspace support may as well be non-existent - hopefully Vista's better off in this regard.
I have one more question though:

- Set the FP241W to be the primary monitor
Uninstall the 3.0 trial of Ultramon

- How do I set what profile is applied when I undock?
