Max Memory/hdd in i1400?
Max Memory/hdd in i1400?
My 2621-441 now has 256Mb memory; manual sez that is the max.
However, the chipset is Ali m7101, m1533, m1621, called Aladdin Pro,
I think. There were some Acer laptops made about the same time as
my ThinkPad using this chipset that would accept 512Mb.
Anyone here have any experience with this? Is there a downside
(other than $) to buying a pair of 256Mb parts and putting them in?
Any risk of damage?
Also, a couple of years ago I dropped in a 30Gb hdd, in place of the
stock 6Gb. Could I now upgrade to a 60Gb 7200 rpm drive?
Thanks,

1. If your computer takes a 30GB drive, it should take a 60GB drive.
2. If you put in memory modules that the system cannot use, it will not recognize them. Worst case, you put in 1 256 module and it is not recognized, you are stuck with the smaller modules. And you won't fry the computer or the modules (I think) unless you put in RAM that takes a different voltage (and then it shouldn't fit).

Thanks, Bruce!
Now I remember that when the 30Gb drive went in, there were
no settings to change or anything. The BIOS recognized it
immediately, and it just worked.
The current memory is pc66 dimms. Do you think that the
pc100 or pc133 dimms for sale at pricewatch.com will work?
I don't see any pc66 notebook memory there. Maybe ebay.

Check out these guys: www.kahlon.comthinkie wrote:I don't see any pc66 notebook memory there. Maybe ebay.
They seem to specialize in notebook memory, and their prices look good. I just bought a 64MB memory stick (obscure 60nS EDO SO-DIMM) from them and it works great (was only $20 including shipping).
