intel pro 100 ve - disconnecting

#1 Post by kam1 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 5:30 pm

I am trying to connect my t23 to a PC using "intel pro 100 ve" ethernet but it connects for a few seconds and then disconnects - I have tried connecting to a router using the ethernet cable and I get the same problem.

The weird thing is that i get a connected message but after 5 seconds it disconnects automatically. Are there any settings that I need to change?

Seems to be a common malady of the "ve" variant. First, to connect PC to PC you'd need a crossover cable to accomplish that. Don't know if that's what you have. Second, try reducing the negotiation to !0Mb half duplex (or full duplex) and see if that accomplishes anything. I performed a google search and came up with a few answers, try the same and you'll read what I did. Thirdly, what operating system are you using and fourth, what is your BIOS config in the ethernet settings?

One last note, have you flash updated or are you using the latest drivers?

Thanks for your help - I downgraded to an older driver for the t23 ethernet pro 100 - it seems to have solved the problem - the funny thing is that I was trying to connect 2 ibm laptops via ethernet cables and they are both running on win xp pro! - maybe there is a conflict on the latest driver for the t23.

Or maybe one of the 400lbs of security updates for XPP was the cause...... it could have sat on your VE driver and squeezed it right out of your Thinkpad.......

Very glad that you found a solution and that it's working. If in the future it misbehaves try setting "auto negotiate" to a line speed. The "VE" chip is the sensitive one of the family.
