BSOD --> BCCode 124
BSOD --> BCCode 124
i'm using vista ultimate oem on my t60 (coreduo 2ghz, 2gb ram, ati x1400 mobility with 7.12 cats) and randomly i get a blue screen of death, and on reboot i get a "BCCode 124" error code.
been running vista since release last year. can anyone narrow down whats going on as i had XP previously installed on it and it never used to do this!

Try loading the latest BIOS and then reset to system defaults in BIOS.
There have been a ton of fixes in the T60 BIOS since the machine first came out.
I would run the PC-Doctor full range of tests before and after the BIOS update just because ...

a bit of googling suggests sound drivers might be a cause. i do have the onboard sound but also have installed beta drivers (as they're the only ones available, creative, grr!) for my audigy notebook zs.
however the card hasnt been plugged in for ages but i suppose the drivers are still present.
will look into the bios issue, i think im on 2.12 or 2.09, its one of those two, but definately not the latest one..

deleted the creative drivers using the guru3d driver sweeper (http://www.guru3d.com/newsitem.php?id=5936), will see how i go before updating to the latest bios (checked and im using 2.12)
i think *touch wood* i've found the cause, i have both NHC and RMClock on my machine running at the same time.
the reason i have both is that i would normally use NHC, but there is a bug in it in that it doesnt clock the cpu speed down when idle in vista.
i had NHC control ACPI functions (for fan speeds etc) and CPU voltages and as it turned out, RMClock was also controlling the voltages. i turned off RMClock's voltage settings and set about doing a full scan with mcafee (which was my sure way of making it crash), crashed halfway through as normal so i turned off NHC's voltage settings and gave them to RMClock.
did a full scan which took 8 hours (!) but no crash this time round so i'm hopeful that is the cause.
all this time i've suspected, my 8gb expresscard and possibly the audigy zs, but it seems that it might be NHC/RMClock not playing nicely with each other!
edit: didnt upgrade the bios, so i'm still on 2.12
