Restarting IBM battery monitor?
Restarting IBM battery monitor?
I just got my X40. Lovely machine, I am quite happy (for now, atleast).
However, as I tend to shut down processes I don't like, I've accidentally turned of IBM's battery monitor several times.
How do I restart it without needing to restart the entire computer? Can't seem to find it anywhere...

Re: Restarting IBM battery monitor?
All Programs>Access IBM>Battery MaxiMiser Wizard>Next, Next, Next (check "Show Battery MaxiMiser..."), next etc.

x20 BATTERY ISSUE, ETC
You seem to know a lot about battery issues, and I have a problem. I've got an X20 2662 win2k 320MB 20GB. It's been eating through batteries pretty regularly over the past year, but I don't know if that's related to my problem. I just installed a new battery (it showed 1 charge cycle after the first charging). On the second or third day of use, I saw that the sleep light (quarter moon) did not go off. This was coincident with the battery maximizer guage turning gray and all battery information fields blank, except for "remaining percentage" reading "error."
When I woke it up from sleep this morning and saw that the sleep light was still on (whether plugged in or not), I shut down and took the battery out to make sure it was seated properly and that there was no dust stuck in there. Everything seemed fine, but when I booted it back up not only was the sleep light stuck on, but the caps lock button was stuck on, as was numlock and that symbol that looks like a monitor with a vertical arrow. Oddly, the thinklight is also stuck on. The battery light next to the sleep light remains yellow with no blinking.
I don't have access to my old battery, but does this sound like the new battery is defective, or could it be something worse? Could the machine be signalling its own imminent demise? I've used it for almost everything I do for about 4 years. It's turned on and working hard an average of 8-10 hours per day, and put into sleep mode every night. Up until now I've had no noteworthy problems with it so it has a clean history.
What do you think? Any ideas?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Rick

Defective battery?
Thanks for getting back to me with your opinion, which I believe is right on the money.
I reinstalled my old battery and voila, everything is back to normal. I reported this to the vendor (BiX Computers 17785 Sky Park Circle, Suite H
Irvine, CA 92614) and they said that it was not unusual for new batteries to act funny until they are charged a few times. I asked them to speak directly to the symptoms of lights going on and disabling of the audio, etc, but they haven't replied.
As I told them, I've bought 2 other replacement batteries for this same machine over the past few years. None of them acted strange in any way.
