Which IBM programs/services should I kill on my t43?

#1 Post by albo » Wed Jan 23, 2008 7:02 pm

Hi Folks,

I've recently reinstalled my OS as it was all crudded up before. Now, I'd like to get things moving as streamlined as possible, and hence this thread. What services and startup programs should I kill on my t43? I don't want anything slowing me down that doesn't have to be there.

Thanks y'all!

allie

it depends how you are going to use your computer. On my T60 which I use for general computing i have disabled only useless services such as windows time, themes, security center, etc. I kept all services that have to do with printing, infrared and so on... yes I am very vague but that's because you have to decide on your own which service you are going to use and which one you are not going to use. here is the website which gives you full description of each service http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
I have 2.5GB of RAM on my T60 so i disabled services only for security reasons. Anything that I thought I could ever need I kept.
On my T23 which i use mostly for surfing and listening to KROQ, I have disabled most of the services. Currently i have only 24 running. This lowered my RAM usage by as much as 50mb which is a lot for a thinkpad that has only 256RAM.
