Calling all T22 owners...

#1 Post by SimonCC » Wed Nov 24, 2004 7:25 pm

Im about to buy a t22 900mhz 256ram, 20bg hd, I would like to know from some owners of this model what the performance is like. The fact it is 900mhz scares me as well as its low ram, it will be needed for word prcoessing and internet browsing primarily with maybe the odd dvd watching. are there any performance issues i should be aware of before i buy, im also considering a second hand 900mhz apple ibook with 256 ram and 40gb hd, but currently im leaning towards the ibm as i have seen how good the build quality is on the t22 - performance wise i know the ibook wins. I would really appreciate some help here as this laptop is a present for my girlfriend and i dont wanna get her a defunct laptop.

Cheers.

The performance, especially given your expected use, will be little short of spectacular.

Don't let yourself be fooled into thinking that you have to have the latest and greatest laptop to perform such mundane tasks as wordsmithing and netsurfing.

Max the RAM at 512MB, get a fast HD such as a 7K60 and it will leave that ibook POS in the dust!

Jeez, a 570 or a 600 will do that acceptably and they are ~366mhz machines. 900mhz will be more than enough to do what you want to do.
Just bump up the memory and HD like JHEM said and you will be good to go.

Yup. Forget the iBook. You should be fine. My girlfriends old junker 450mghz PIII does all that stuff just fine.

I have a T20 with 900Mhz upgrade, and for Word and Internet that's overkill!
A simple Pentium II with 300 Mhz even will be bored with that type of usage.

Get the T22, it is a wonderful machine. The 900Mhz will give you just the required power to watch WinDVD with all surround sound processing enabled.

However, Win XP with 256 is no fun, get more memory.

Cheers,
Zaphod

I'm afraid I'm not current on who is the preferred HD monger on your side of the pond. Perhaps one of our other UK based Forum members will chime in.

Amongst new HD offerings, literally anything! But for top performance on your T22, look for a 7200RPM HD like the Hitachi 7K60.
