Best product to clean T series?

#1 Post by Padhead » Thu Jan 24, 2008 8:13 pm

Howdy folks, what's the best thing to clean up old T series? Is any way to restore shiny keys and worn-out looking areas of the black matte finish?

What's the best thing to clean the screen with?

Thanks again

There's a FAQ with cleaning instructions here. As an added tip, Mr Clean Magic eraser is the best thing I have found for Laptop lids on the older rubberized machines. Wet the eraser and rub lightly in a circular motion. You'll be surprised at the results. As always, do not get liquid of any kind into the machine internals ...

They (IBM) recommend a fine mist of IPA cut with water on the screen. They suggest misting this same 50/50 mixture on a soft (microfibre) towel and wiping each key 'til clean.

Enjoy.

IPA is Isopropal alcohol, I presume???

I wonder if the Brand "Mother's" "Back to Black" would help the restore case?

When areas are "shinny", are they worn out or is that grime dug in really deep? I presume we all know what I am talking about when I say shinny keys and mouse pad.

I would think that vacumming the keys first would be a great way to lift as much dust as possible before cleaning them. This would deal with the earlier post that was concerned with dust falling in between the keys.

CAREFUL!! Read why here-->

what should i do? any suggestions? should i use my warranty? should i take the loss? (which is unacceptable cause those 3 keys look ugly as heck / by keeping them i will sacrifise the professional business appearance of my t43).

thanks so much.

ps:i know i know guys, im dumb... i passed the vaccum stick thingy too hard and quick.
... not so fun... :-( Try search this forum for "vacuum keyboard" (and use "Search all terms"), and see what other folks do to clean their keyboards.

Does this mean, Frank, that you have decided to keep your "new" absolutely de-luxe, cool, low-noise, high-performance, MINT condition 15" UXGA FlexView/IPS T43p :-) or are you just in the midst of shining t up before posting it for sale?

Not Witch Hazel!

(The bottles were next to each other under the sink)

I got a nasty blotch on the LCD of one of my T42s. It's now all set up to go under the TV (closed) to stream netflix movies - so it's not a total loss.

Sorry, yes, IPA = isopropyl alcohol. Not rubbing alcohol.

There's an entire write-up on all of this at the Lenovo site. I'll see if I can find it again...

Here it is in another version:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... rintLenovo

While they don't specify "micro fibre towels", they're perfect for this task as they are virtually lint free and e-z on the scratching :)

Jonah, real good point on the vacuum. I might of done the same thing.

I don't know what I am going to do. I picked up two T43's with Flexview. I have been test driving them for a couple days.

One is a P with UXGA which turns out to be too small of resolution for me. The other is a SXGA, but only has 64MB GPU. Which probably wont cut it on Vista. I might research that.

I might end up selling both T43's. LOL

Those Kim's wipes look like the way to go, but I don't think that they are moisened.

I put one of those covers over the keyboard, from protectcovers.com . I've had it for over a couple years now... it's pretty good. It fits nicely over the keys for my T41. I had ordered their screen cover too for the t41, but it didn't fit right... maybe now they make them better.
