R32 LCD with split screen and no image

#1 Post by budtin » Fri Jan 25, 2008 3:46 am

Would the follows indicated loose connection between LCD and the system board?

When I started to power on my R32, I could see the normal IBM logo, and within 3 seconds the LCD showed two split areas:
1) one ¾ inch wide horizontal stripe in light grey color across the top of the LCD
2) the rest of the LCD being dark grey in color

Usually when I opened the LCD lid or touched the palm area of the notebook, the LCD returned to normal, and the computer continued to boot for a few seconds.

Then, the LCD returned to show the two split areas, and the computer eventually locked up in minutes.

Hello.

Recently, I was able to re-install Windows XP Home. I also updated the display card with drivers obtained from the manufacturer. The display could work properly sometimes, but often image disappeared leaving a blank screen (not black, showing the power was on).

So what can I do?

Thank you very much.

First of all, welcome to the forum!

It sounds to me like your video card it bad, especially because of the locking and blank screen, and that equals motherboard repair or replacement.

If you're very lucky, it might be your LCD cable, but I honestly doubt it. However, these are cheap enough to buy one just for testing purposes and see where you stand.

Good luck.
