Wireless upgrade options for T40 (2379-D5U)

#1 Post by chansonbleu » Fri Jan 25, 2008 3:20 pm

I have a T40 (2379-D5U) with the Dual Band Mini PCI a/b internal wireless adapter. I would love to update this machine with an internal a/b/g wireless card, but I am not sure what cards this machine will support. Has anyone gotten an internal a/b/g wireless card working on a T40? All recommendations are welcome.

Thanks!

Pete

Once you applied the 1802 patch, you have a wide choice. The IBM High Rate is actually Atheros type x (a/b/g). They were the first to come out with 802.11a NIC chipsets.

Keep in mind that the WLAN-LED won't work with non-authorized cards. That's the case with my T41 and an Intel 2915ABG card. Besides that it works flawlessly and was much cheaper too.

Here you go, use this card. No hack required and it is an IBM card so the wifi indicator will work. If the T40 is not wifi ready, you'll also need an antenna, and possibly a clearplate if yours doesn't have a wifi indicator on it.
