Cannot get windows mobile device center to install or update

So, trying to connect my windows mobile 6 device to this vista tablet, but I cannot get the WMDC installer to FINISH. It just gets to the last seconds and hangs.

Certainly, the final step in the process should not take that long
Any tips?

Right-click the Vista toolbar and select Task Manager. Kill off the installer, and then reboot and try running it again.

Try it with the device connected and try it without the device connected.
