R30 Keyboard problem

#1 Post by hjanzen » Sun Jan 27, 2008 10:56 am

After installing a new CMOS battery, and as a consequence removing and replacing the keyboard the following keys do not function any more:
upper row: r-t
middle row: f-g
lower row :v-b,

and the figures 4 and 5.

The board fits perfectly, the 2 screws from the underside are fine, I checked and rechecked the cable connection.
Everything seems to be OK, but nevertheless...

Any suggestions?

Did you try to reseat the keyboard? What does PC-Doctor tests say about your system and mainly regarding your keyboard?
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

@ryengineer
Thanks for your suggestions.
-I had removed and reseated the keyboard several times, but to no avail.
-This morning I have run the PC-Doctor tests:
Diagnostics all 88 tests 'passed'
The keyboard Interactive test gave the same results as I met before in 'Wordpad' : the a.m. characters remained dead , i.e. blank rather than black as all the others did in the test when touched.

I am afraid that I need another keyboard and have ordered one at a very reasonable price at Ebay, be it that shipping cost are double the amount of the item itself..

This morning I got the new keyboard.
Unfortunately the problem with the non-functioning of a number of keys as explaned in the 1st post still exist.

I have tried to clean the interior of the keyboard socket on the systemboard; did not help either.

I am now afraid there is something wrong with the systemboard but I feel that I have spent enough for now and I am not going to replace that one.

BTW, an exterior keyboard connected via a portreplicator works fine.
Any more suggestions?
Regards, Hans.
