dead T42

#1 Post by pveazey » Sun Jan 27, 2008 6:29 pm

HELP!! I was downloading some iTunes last night when the application froze, and then the entire functionality of the T42 froze. I unplugged and removed the battery in order to reboot, but now I can't get the T42 to even turn on. The battery light is green. Any thoughts as to what happened and what I can do, other than send it in for repair?

- unplug system and remove battery

- press the power button ten times repeatedly

- then hold down the power button for 25 seconds in order to completely discharge the capacitors, etc.

Try plugging in the AC power and attempt to boot. If nothing happens, then repeat the process but run off of the battery instead (no AC adapter).

First, you don't have to pull the battery to turn off the laptop if it froze. Press and hold the power button until it turns off.

Have you tried it on AC power, possibly without the battery in the laptop?

If the above excellent suggestions do not work I would call for service.

Hopefully there is still factory warranty left.

Doesn't always work. I'm seeing a crash once a week or so on my T42 where I can't power off - I need to unplug and pull the battery.

The same exact thing happened to my T40 a couple months back. I ended up buying a new computer. I could not figure out what happened since the system was giving me no response.
