UXGA from a31p to T42?

#1 Post by borodark » Tue Jan 29, 2008 5:41 pm

The LCD on my T42 2373N1U(
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=2373N1U)
have gone wrong
It does not show anything at all although back light is on and computer works with external monitor.
I have not checked inside the lid but only have tried to reset the connector. Can it be a cable?
So if LCD is gone I have to replace it. Reading the forum I have got an idea of upgrading the 1400x1050 panel to better one. I know that the cable and inverter have to be replaced as well. So here is the main question:
I have a working UXGA LCD panel from a31p repair: 1600x1200 IDTech (IAUX14) FRUs 07n2160 05K9967. Will it fit? Are they compatible?
The UXGA LCDs for the t42 made by IDtech but they have different FRU: 92P6683.
So is this possible or anyone have done it?

I have had and worked on both, bit I don't have an A31 apart to look at the cable and connector. Even then, I would be afraid to try. There is no standard on pin arrangement and connector. Some combinations cook the motherboard.

JAE FI-XB30S-HF10 is the connector on a31p panel.

There are no drawings of it but here is the other one similar

Don't even bother trying it will NOT work.

I've played with that idea (the other way around) years ago and found out the hard way.

Connections are entirely different.

I can confirm A31p UXGA (IDTECH IAUX14S P/N:07N2160, FRU/PN: 05K9967) works with t42p motherboard 8)
Here is beginning of the story:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... light=uxga

I have changed a MB to 128MB GL and being ignorant and bold I have decided to give it a try because I have other parts from my original LCD assembly of t42 with UXGA Cable and spare UXGA screen from A31p.
I had put parts together and can say it is not pretty but works. The a31p LCD connector is sitting about 1 cm lower then connector on the original part. So when cable is attached the LED light for keyboard can not make it to the small window it suppose to be in.
So I have working screen but no light and it still makes me happy :P .
Pictures are available.

Thanks to all for valuable input ...
