what is an overclocked core?

#1 Post by djtopcat » Tue Jan 29, 2008 8:38 pm

I know about the BGA RAM chip issues but I'm still trying to understand when I use this ATI tool overclocking the core causes the symptoms I've been having all along jittery screen then complete system lock up it has to be a heat issue but does not having proper contact to the board for the chip cause overheating? I'm confused now I tried cinching down the chip with those sticky pad squares but I need to figure a way to make them more heat resistant maybe wrap in foil?

Instability from overclocking is different from instability due to broken connections.

Excess heat can speed up the breaking of connections, but this is over the course of months/years.

So what is the problem exactly? Are you having these problems when running normally (not overclocked) ?
