t23 w/ built in wireless can't connect to internet on 1st

#1 Post by fefrie » Tue Jan 29, 2008 11:31 pm

on first try.

Using access connections, I have to disconnect the connections then reconnect.

This usually happens when I first start the laptop. It's getting a little annoying.

Any ideas on what I should be tweaking on access connections?

It may have started when I specified the wireless adaptor to use a specific ip address under access connections. I've defaulted to obtain ip address automatically, but still having problems. Suggestions?

Get rid of Access Connections. Use XP Wireless Connection, or if it's an Intel card, use their connection program.

It's a coveted built in wireless t23 with the proper windows in the lid. I think I may just reinstall the access connections. I may just wipe out the hard drive completely and reinstall. the computer mostly runs fine, but it's good to give it a good 'cleaning' out once in a while.

i recently got a thinkpad t23 and i joined this forum mostly because ive seen everywhere that the t23 has built in wireless. but it seems my t23 doesnt have it, do you have to activate it or what cause ive tried installing 2 different drivers and both of them said their was no wireless network adapter installed. plus theirs nothing in the device manager for it

Go to the Lenovo website and enter the seven character model number in the box. This will tell you how the ThinkPad was equipped when it left the factory.

You can also look at the sides of the upper half. (The Screen half.) If there are little "windows" on the upper end of each side, you have a wireless capable T23. (look for little windows, with /////// or \\\\\\ on them.)

Also, pull the cover for the network card. If you see 2 single wires plugged into the larger card, you have wireless. If you have the wires, and the windows, but no wireless card, you can get the card, and go wireless.

Oh, SOME T23s are wireless-capable. Not all of them.

You can see the difference between the non-wireless (top) and wireless (bottom) systems in the first picture on my T23 wireless upgrade page:

If it's an Intel card, I'd still get rid of AC and use Intels connection software. I thought it was a pretty slick interface.
