Ubuntu not booting on T60
Ubuntu not booting on T60
I have serious problem so please help:
I can't get Ubuntu to boot on my machine. Can't get Linux Mint to work either on this 8743-CTO. When I try, it keeps hanging on "Running local boot scripts /etc/rc.local"
And then I get a blue screen, that's right a blue screen in linux (who'ed a thunk?) that says something like screen has refreshed six times in the last 2 seconds, but I can't read it cuz it's cut off.
Even when it displays running local boot scripts, most of the screen is cut off, like the LCD is showing the top left corner of the console.
any one else have this problem? Any one know how to fix it? Can lenovo phone help?
Thanks

i also have the 8743 and this is normal. if you just want to install it then you can use the alternate-iso (which boots into an ANSI installer). there are also some hints on this page
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installin ... inkpad_T60
the problem is that you need to install the ati-restricted drivers. when the system blanks out to a blank screen you can try to run 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg'
and setting the resolution to VGA, then trying to boot into the desktop, but i don't know if this will work with the liveCD. If you just want to test linux, i was able to boot the Fedora Live CD ok.
if you're doing this to install Gutsy, then good luck with the other issues (suspend/hibernate, 1680x1050 resolution). not impossible to fix (i've fixed them all on mine) but still work.

I had similar or same error when first installed 7.10 to T60 using alternate install cd.
It might be because I was too honest and said that my monitor could do 800x600 and 1680x1050.
Maybe should have just said 800x600 during the install, and waited til later to get high res working.
This worked for me when got the error message:
Found that hint here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=579393&page=2
After it installed, I was able to get the right driver installed easily, and at the right resolution. Haven't tried to get hibernate working. It's looking like I'll be using Windows instead though, as Ubuntu can't see my second CF drive using UDMA4 like Puppy Linux and Windows can. Using hdparm to force to udma4 didn't work.

This worked for me when got the error message:
Had to hit enter a few times just to see what was going on, or you can type it in blindly.press ctrl+alt+F1 to get to console.
Type "startx".

Moved to Chrome OS, so... SK-8855 USB Keyboard
Re: Ubuntu not booting on T60
If you're installing (and it seems as if you are), when you get to that screen hit alt-f1 which will take you to a command prompt (only problem is that you can't see what you're typing). Type: STARTX and hit enter. When you're running, make sure the restricted depositories are enabled, and activate the restricted drivers. Reboot and you should be ok.charredii wrote:I have serious problem so please help:
