/3GB boot.ini switch not working x41 for 2.5GB RAM Upgrade

#1 Post by samxmas888 » Wed Jan 30, 2008 5:03 am

Hi, I have an x41 type 2527 with 512MB onboard and 512MB upgrade.

Both are DDR2 afaik.

I've taken the expanded 512MB sodimm out and replaced it with a 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 667Mhz sodimm and the system will not boot up at all.

I read here that you could add a /3GB switch to the boot.ini file to tell windows to recognise extra RAM for upgrades etc - I edited this line (as shown below) but still the system will not boot at all:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect/3GB

Should I go for a BIOS upgrade? :)

I even tried a BIOS upgrade but the program said there was no need to upgrade (presumably because I had the latest version) but still the 2GB sodimm will not allow the system to boot..

try another dimm, a 533mhz one preferably. It runs on 400MHz in X41 anyway, from what i've read. The machine should at least boot, hiding ram over 2G. No booting signals incompatibility.

Scrap that. The chipset cannot address more than 2 GB anyway.
