IBM ThinkPad Predesktop Area

#1 Post by Luis » Fri Nov 26, 2004 1:47 pm

I just bought the IBM ThinkPad R50 and I wanted to change the hard drive from 40GB to 80GB. However, when the image of the original hard drive was made, necessary steps were not followed by the seller, as I realized later when I read the instructions on IBM Web page.

This situation does not allow me to press the Access IBM key and entering the IBM Predesktop Area software, when booting up the notebook.

Is there any way to install again this software?

Thanks for any help on this matter

Call IBM, ask for the Recovery CD's (you have to pay now), and use them to build the new hard drive. Make sure all partitions are gone from the new hard drive (don't assume anything), and the Recovery CD's will build everything including the PreDesktop area (been there, done that).

Dear jdhurst:

First of all, thanks for your help. But, Do you know who do I have to phone or email to, in order to know how do I get that Recovery CD (in Spanish)?

Thanks for your help again

Drive Image 7 is a wonderful soft
You can store in an other partition different images of your HD
It takes only 15' for a 4 GB image !
