A few questions from a Thinkpad newbie!

#1 Post by macmac » Fri Nov 26, 2004 4:17 pm

I have recently been presented with an excellent deal on a sealed box, refurbished T41, Model 2373-X16.
As a further incentive, if there are ANY dead pixels upon inspection, I get a full refund!

Here are the full specs:

1.7GHz Intel Pentium M Processor
512 MB DDR RAM
60 GB 7200 rpm HDD
14" SXGA (1400 x 1025) TFT LCD
CDRW / DVD-ROM COMBO
32MB ATI Mobility RADEON 9000
10/100/1000 Network card onboard
Cisco 802.11 b & bluetooth
Windows XP Professional
Fully Refurbished w/ 1 year warranty through IBM

I have 3 questions:

1) Does the 7200RPM drain the battery significantly faster than a 5400RPM drives?

2) How does the Cisco 802.11b WIFI solution perform? How does itcompare to Intel's B/G and IBM's A/B/G solutions? Good reception? Trouble free?

3) Do you think the processor is a Banias or Dothan?

Thank you for your time!

I hope you join the ranks of Thinkpad owners really soon! :)

1. There are a lot of people who will say that the 7200 actually uses less battery because it is faster and therefore doesn't need to spin for as long of a time.

2. I have a friend with the Cisco card. They have installed them on all of the corporate laptops and have not had any problems with them...obviously it is a "B" only card, but for most people surfing the web, that doesn't matter.

3. Banias

Good luck, and (premature) welcome!
