Motherboards Interchangeable?

#1 Post by fisherm » Wed Jan 30, 2008 9:11 pm

I'm curious about the possibility of putting a T21, T22, or T23 motherboard into a T20. Mine is without audio function, and I can't easily find a used T20 motherboard. I've found a couple T21, 2, and3's (with CPU and fan). Will these work? It seems that the cases and I/O boards are identical. Just fishing for previous experience with this project idea. Thanks in advance.

I'm going to say "probably" for T21/22, and "no" for T23, but am not absolutely certain.

Waiting for Ray to chime in...

The T20-T22s can have their boards interchanged...the T23 cannot.

tfflivemb2 is correct. Unfortunately, the boards and cases of the T23 do not match those of the T20-22 series (which makes it difficult to assemble a T23 from parts), but everything except the fans are interchangeable in the T20-22s. The T22 fans are more powerful than the T20-21 versions, and keep the higher-frequency CPUs cooler.

OK thanks. So as long as I get the fan as well a T21/22 board will work? Are there any other parts that have to be changed if I change the motherboard. Also, this means that the CPU can upgrade along with the motherboard, correct? I know these are probably stupid questions, but I just want to make sure before I get the T20 - T21/22 transformation project started. Thanks again.

There are no stupid questions, your asking what's plausible *before* you commit. That's far wiser than finding out with the wallet that you've made a mistake.

It's a good question, one I didn't know the answer to but do now.....and I will commit it to the memory "keep" bin for later use.

Yes, no and yes, as long as you stay in the T20-22 series.

By the way, if you decide to upgrade the CPU to 1GHz on a T21 or T22 board, I have a brand new T22 fan sitting here for sale - cheap. :)
