T41 DVD format Compatability question

I was in a store today looking at DVD recorders, to record television progams (these replace VHS recorders).

How can I tell if the CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo in my T41 (2379DJU) can play all the different combinations of DVD formats the DVD recorder can record in? (DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, etc.?)

The CD-RW/DVD-ROM in my laptop is listed as a MATSHITA UJDA755zDVD/CDRW in the Device Manager, and I have Win XP SP2.
