R61i: hibernation power usage?

#1 Post by Rogue505 » Thu Jan 31, 2008 7:40 pm

Hello,

Last week I've bought my first laptop, a thinkpad R61 and today I've encountered my first issue.

I charged the battery to 100% overnight and disconnected it in the morning when I took the thing with me. When I powered it on in late afternoon (until then laptop was in hibernation) my battery was down to 75%. This hardly seems normal to me. I've done some searching and I've noticed that people mention "wake-on lan" function using power during hibernation.
I've disabled the feature in Vista to see if it helps. Disabling it in BIOS as well made my LAN adapter non-functional in Vista so I switched it back on.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Is there any further advice that you can offer? I will report if disabling the wake-on-lan in Vista changed anything.

Regards,
Rogue

Hello Rogue,

the T models also have this problem.
It has to do with Hybrid Sleep in vista.

OK, I've disabled hybrid sleep as well as Wake-on-LAN. Before I went to bed I hibernated my laptop and then unplugged it. When I turned it back on just moments ago (after about 10 hours), the battery meter showed 100%.
Success! :)
