weird noise coming out of the motherboard

#1 Post by mattbiernat » Fri Feb 01, 2008 10:10 am

so whenever the CPU usage goes up I get a weird noise that sounds like this "eeeeeeeeeeeeeee" then stops for 2 seconds and then again "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
its not very load but its annoying. Is this normal for T23s?
- i know it is not the LCD because i get the same noise when the screen is turned off
- i know it is not the Hard Drive because when I access HD under low CPU usage I don't get this noise
can anyone help me?

Fan is spinning, not just trying to?
Is this noise coming from the speakers?

If it is a high pitched whine, then it's probably the inductor (or related power circuitry) next to the CPU. A couple of my T23s do this all of the time. It will vary according to amount of work that the system is doing.

I don't worry about it :) . But then again, I have a couple of spare motherboards in case anything drastic happens. The good news is that this T23 has made the noise ever since I replaced that particular inductor (designated L9 on the motherboard) when I received it without one and it has never given me any problems.
