Which Services Can One Disable in Vista?

#1 Post by scrawledinwax » Fri Feb 01, 2008 2:42 pm

Hey folks,

I was just watching my X61's CPU run at 50% due to the Thinkvantage Scheduler and I was wondering: does anyone know of a list that describes what each service does? Do I even need somethink like tvtsched if I run updates manually?

As always, any help would be much appreciated.

just for starters here's a pretty good one from my little library:

Windows services-a nice December 8 2007

Link

So many articles on disabling Windows Services are just not very clear. This one has some nice explanations for what the services do, and which ones to set to Manual, Automatic, or Disabled.

MOD EDIT: Link modified for better scrolling.

Thanks for the link :) By the way, disabling tvtsched as a service using msconfig has sped up - and cooled down - my system noticeably.

Cheers,
