T23 inductor question

#1 Post by SMA » Sat Feb 02, 2008 6:33 am

I have a T23 that will not boot.
I have taken it apart and I have found that the inductor L9 is missing.
It is on the upper side of the board, in the upper left corner, hidden below the fan.
It is the inductor that is also missing on this picture (A1-A2)

I am hoping that I may find a similar inductor on another (non T23) ThinkPad board.
But to do that, I need to know the number marking on that inductor.

So, anyone with a T23 board at hand, kindly post the number marked on the L9 inductor.
Thanks in advance.

The numbers on L9 are OR6NH (the first digit could also be a zero rather than a capital "O"), and below that H1N2. It's about one mm wider than the ones on T20-22 boards (marked R47/H11 or R47/Hxx, just to the left of the keyboard connector) so although they look similar, they apparently aren't identical.

Here's a link to a complete T23 mainboard image (top) with the inductors marked with red arrows:

That L9 inductor should be 0R6NH (zero, not the letter O). It denotes a 0.66uH inductor and can be ordered from mouser.com or possibly digikey.com. The manufacturer is Sumida and is shown on this catalog page:

Great links Ray. Thanks.

Here is how it went.

I found a 1uH, physically identical inductor on the board I usually uses when seeking spare parts.
Electrically not an exact match, but with a tolerance of 30% on these inductors, I figured that I could
not make it worse by trying. I moved it into the T23.

Also, the inductor L8 had one loose leg. So I re-soldered that one too.

And now, when powering up, I do get the ibm logo.

Ah yes, that's on the other side.
